National Apprenticeships Week Spotlight: Mihir’s First 6 Months at CHIC

Starting your first full time role can feel like stepping into the unknown with new systems, new people and new expectations. For Mihir, CHIC’s current Graduate Apprentice, the past six months in the Member Services Team have been fast paced, eye opening and full of learning.

“I expected to learn about procurement, but what surprised me most is how much of the role is about people – understanding what members actually need and helping them find the right solution.”

Mihir’s first placement has given him a front row seat of how CHIC supports its members across the different regions in the UK.

“Member Services has given me a strong foundation. It’s not just about frameworks, it’s about relationships, solving problems and making sure contracts work in practice.”

From supporting enquiries to helping with reporting and completing a full competitor analysis, Mihir has quickly built confidence working across teams.

“No two days are the same. I’ve learned how everything connects and how important communication and organisation is when managing different priorities.”

Beyond technical knowledge, the apprenticeship has helped Mihir develop key workplace skills.

“Time management and communication have been big areas of growth. I’ve learned to tailor how I explain things depending on who I’m speaking to and to take real responsibility for my work. I also had the opportunity to deliver a presentation to the entire CHIC team which I received great feedback for. It was daunting yet rewarding!”

Feeling part of the team has also made a difference.

“Everyone is approachable and supportive. I’ve always felt that my work adds value, which has helped me learn much faster.”

With rotations to come in Procurement, Strategic Services, Supply Chain and Marketing & Communications, Mihir feels ready for the next step.

“Starting in Member Services has helped me understand the bigger picture, which will definitely help as I move through other teams.”

Former apprentice Haris, now a Technical and Commercial Coordinator, sees the programme as a launchpad for his career.

“Rotating through teams helped me discover where my strengths were. You’re not just observing, you’re contributing, and that builds confidence quickly.”

“By the end of my apprenticeship, I understood both the technical side and how CHIC works as an organisation. It’s a great route into the housing and construction sectors.”

This National Apprenticeship Week, we are proud to celebrate how apprentices like Mihir and Haris are growing their careers while making a real contribution to CHIC and the sector.
